Family photo locations play a bigger role than most families realize. Whether you’re planning family photography, newborn photography, maternity photography, or senior portraits, the right location helps create photographs that feel natural, connected, and true to your family.
After photographing families across San Francisco and the SF Peninsula, I’ve learned that the location shapes the entire experience. Some of my favorite moments happen when children are collecting seashells at the beach, racing down a garden path, or exploring beneath towering redwoods without realizing they’re having their photo taken. That’s why one of the first questions I ask every family is, “What feels most like you?” There isn’t one perfect location. The best one reflects your family’s personality, your children’s ages, and the memories you want to create together.
This guide features my favorite family photo locations across the Bay Area. It’s the same guide I share with every family after they book, with planning tips on the best time of day, parking, stroller accessibility, dog friendliness, and permit information to help you choose with confidence.
