Why Families Love Village Park Playground
If you’ve been Googling “Village Park Playground” or asking your mom friends about quiet parks near Burlingame, this is the one they’re probably talking about (and if they’re not they will be soon).
There are play structures designed for different ages: one just right for toddlers ages 2–5, and a larger structure for kids 5 and up. The playground is incredibly baby-friendly too. I even brought my son here when he was only 18 months old. He wasn’t walking yet, but the soft ground and small climbing areas gave him a safe place to crawl, explore, and build his motor skills.
Here’s what you’ll love about Village Park Burlingame:
Clean, well maintained equipment for kids of all ages
Two separate playgrounds (one for toddlers, one for big kids)
Fully fenced toddler area with a small sand pit
Shaded picnic tables perfect for snack breaks
Spacious green lawn for running, ball games, or just rolling around
Clean public bathrooms (yes, really!)
Basketball court and paved scooter paths
Usually not too crowded a huge win
Tall redwood trees offering great shade and photo opportunities
The vibe here is calm, local, and easy. This isn’t the “destination” park where everyone flocks to it’s the hidden gem moms keep in their back pocket.

My Photographer’s Take: Why Village Park Works for Family Photos
As a photographer, I always consider how natural light, layout, and vibe work together to create beautiful photos. Village Park Playground has that magic mix:
Tall, mature trees that offer dappled light and natural shade
Neutral, non distracting backgrounds (perfect for candid shots)
Flat open space so your kids can move freely without falling into a crowd
Quiet mornings with fewer distractions = happier kids = more genuine smiles
Tall redwoods throughout creating stunning photo backdrops
This is the kind of place where you can get those authentic, joy filled photos that make grandma tear up and your friends ask, “Where was this taken?”

Village Park Preschool: A Hidden Gem for Little Learners
Tucked right into the heart of Village Park Playground is Village Park Preschool, a sweet and nurturing program offered by Burlingame Parks and Recreation. The experienced teachers and engaging curriculum create such a warm and welcoming space for little ones to grow. My son goes to Village Park Preschool, and we absolutely love it.
The staff is so kind and organized, and the families we’ve met through the program are just as lovely. The class sizes are small (around 15 students), and my son comes home singing new songs every day. They do tons of art, storytelling, and sensory play—and the outdoor space, right next to the playground, is a total win.
The program focuses on physical, emotional, and social growth, with child centered activities like:
Arts and crafts
Music and movement
Listening skills and early science
Outdoor play and storytelling
Important note for enrollment: You must be a Burlingame resident to participate in the lottery.
Good news: Even if you’re a non-resident, don’t be discouraged! Non residents are welcome and often get in, even on waitlist!
Bonus: The pricing is incredibly reasonable for preschool in this area.

Mom Tip: If your child is shy or slow to warm up, walk by the park during class time to see the preschoolers outside. It’s a great way to spark their curiosity and help them imagine themselves there. It worked like a charm for my little guy.
Village Park Playground vs. Washington Park
Parents often ask me if Village Park is better than Washington Park. My answer? It depends on your vibe.
Washington Park has newer equipment and a manicured lawn, but it can get crowded and overstimulating for little ones.
Village Park Playground feels more low key and local. It’s not as “fancy,” but it’s quieter, easier to manage, and still has everything you need for a great outing.
So if you’re looking for an easy win with toddlers or preschoolers, Village Park Burlingame is your spot.
Things to Know Before You Go
Let’s get practical. Here’s what to know before you pack the snacks and load up the car:
Bathrooms: Clean and open during regular park hours
Parking: Street parking only. It’s a quiet neighborhood, but weekends fill up fast so try to come early
Shade: There’s lovely tree coverage over the lawn. If you plan to hang near the play structures, bring a hat or umbrella as those areas get sunny
Best Time to Go: Weekday mornings are quietest. Weekends can get lively with birthday parties, family picnics, and even taco stands and balloon arches. It’s a festive scene, but busier
Party Friendly: Picnic tables are available and can be reserved for birthdays and celebrations
Scooter and Stroller Friendly: Yes. Flat paved paths are great for wheels of all kinds
Dog Policy: Leashed dogs are welcome and often seen strolling with their families
Mom Tip: Pack a mini picnic, even if you’re not staying long. Having a snack break under the trees is such a sweet memory maker and it buys you an extra 30 minutes of playtime.
