Looking for a San Francisco dog photographer who gets it. One who knows your pup is family and you want photos that feel like you.
I got you.
Lifestyle photography focuses on real connection rather than stiff poses. Sessions are guided gently so families feel relaxed while genuine moments unfold. My role is simple. Calm leadership, natural moments, and space for genuine family connection.
Whether you are wrangling toddlers or it is just you and your four legged ride or die, a photo session with a San Francisco dog photographer should feel joyful, easy, and something you actually look forward to.
Across the San Francisco Peninsula and San Mateo County, many families include their dogs because they are part of everyday life. When sessions are calm and well-led, dogs settle quickly and authentic moments appear naturally.
A San Francisco dog photographer specializes in photographing dogs and their families in outdoor locations across the city and the San Francisco Peninsula. These sessions focus on relaxed family lifestyle portraits where pets are included naturally as part of the family story rather than treated as props or staged subjects.
Many families like to see real sessions before planning their own. You can explore my family photo portfolio here:

Helpful tips for photos with dogs so your pup shines in front of the camera

San Francisco has a personality all its own. Fog rolling over the hills. Golden light reflecting off the bay. Historic architecture tucked between colorful homes.
When I photograph dogs in the city, I want the images to feel like a little story.
It is not just a park photo. It is your dog looking like the main character in a storybook with the Painted Ladies, Crissy Field, or a glowing pier behind them.
That whimsical look comes from a mix of perfect golden hour timing and a calm, guided session.
When the light is soft and the pace is relaxed, dogs settle in. That is when the magic happens.

One of the best parts of working as a San Francisco dog photographer is the incredible variety of locations available within a short drive.
Some of my favorite whimsical city backdrops include:
Elegant columns and soft reflections create a regal setting that feels timeless. This location works beautifully for calmer dogs who can pause beside their people.
Moody ocean views, wind in the fur, and the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance. Perfect for dogs who love movement and open space.
Tucked inside Golden Gate Park, this windmill and garden setting has a subtle European charm that makes portraits feel whimsical and unique.
Dramatic coastal cliffs and ocean views create images with a slightly moody cinematic vibe.
Long wooden pier lines, glowing city lights, and the skyline behind you. A beautiful option for dogs who feel comfortable in busier city environments.
High energy dogs often do best in wide open places like Baker Beach or Fort Funston where they can move freely.
Dogs who enjoy sitting beside their people tend to shine in architectural locations like Palace of Fine Arts or Pier 7.
Many families worry about photographing their dog in San Francisco.
Traffic. Tourists. Other dogs. City noise.
The truth is, city sessions work beautifully when the experience is thoughtfully led.
My approach focuses on choosing quiet corners within popular locations and guiding families with simple prompts so dogs stay focused on you instead of the distractions.
This calm leadership creates what I call a well-led photo experience.
Dogs respond quickly to relaxed energy. When families slow down, dogs settle too.

San Francisco weather can shift quickly, especially near the coast. I always recommend bringing warm layers for city sessions, even during summer.
Naked is totally fine. Their fur is often the best accessory.
A simple bandana can add personality.
Custom outfits or cultural clothing can also look beautiful and meaningful on camera.
Choose clothing that feels natural but slightly elevated.
Soft earth tones, cozy textures, and layers photograph beautifully against the architecture and natural backdrops around the city.
Comfort matters most because you will likely be sitting, walking, and playing with your dog.
And one small but important detail.
Choose a thin neutral leash.
Bold leashes can pull attention away from your dog and the connection happening in the photo.
Clean lines help keep the images looking timeless.
Comfort matters most because you will likely be sitting, running, and snuggling on the ground with your dog.

While many sessions take place in the city, I photograph families across the entire San Francisco Peninsula including:
Millbrae
San Mateo
Burlingame
Palo Alto
Half Moon Bay
Many Peninsula families enjoy including their dogs during relaxed outdoor sessions because pets are part of everyday life.
Some families begin with dog friendly family portraits and later return for maternity portrait sessions or newborn photography sessions when their family grows.

“My toddler didn’t want to leave.”
A mom from a recent session at Laurelwood Park where I helped hold the leash while she got a solo photo with her husband.
“This was my first ever photoshoot, and bringing along my two little pups could have made it tricky, but she made the entire experience effortless.”
Five star review from a first time client with two tutu wearing Pomeranians.

My style is relaxed, professional, and joy filled.
I guide you gently with prompts so you can relax and enjoy your session with your pets. At the same time, I leave space for real moments to unfold.
Tail wags. Licks. Snuggles. And yes, the occasional zoomie.
You do not need a perfectly trained dog or a complicated plan.
You just need love and a little good light.
I will take care of the rest.
Absolutely. Most dogs are photographed on leash. I recommend a thin neutral leash so it blends naturally into the scene. Safety always comes first.
Sunrise or the hour before sunset. The light is softer, the city is quieter, and dogs are usually more relaxed.
Both. My sessions include portraits of your dog and natural lifestyle moments of you interacting together. Think of it as a family session where the dog is the guest of honor.
That is my job to lead. I use high value treats, playful prompts, and patience. The goal is always a calm session where we work with your dog’s personality rather than against it.
Thinking about a photo session with dog at Fort Funston, Lands End, or another beautiful Bay Area location.
I would love to help you plan it.
Pets are always welcome because they are part of your family story.
