This guide to San Francisco Newborn Photography is written for tired parents who want beautiful easy and relaxed photos at home. You will find timing tips, outfit ideas, location notes, and a simple plan that keeps everyone happy and easy at home.
You want photos that feel like your family, not stiff or staged images that don’t capture your true connection. That is exactly what I do. My work is lifestyle-inspired. It is filled with laughter, hugs, kisses, and quiet in-between moments that reflect the magic of this season.
Most of my clients are busy millennial moms who are balancing careers, little kids, and the beautiful chaos of family life. Their days are full of school drop-offs, playdates, and endless laundry, but their hearts are wide open. They want photos that feel natural and easy—something that fits into their already full lives without adding more stress.
I will guide you with poses and prompts that feel natural and comfortable to your family. I read the energy of the session and meet you where you are. My goal is always to create images that feel real, organic, and heartfelt.
Our apartment is small and maybe a little dark
I find flattering window light in almost any home.
Baby is fussy and naps are unpredictable
We pause for feedings and diaper changes without rush.
Toddler loves to run and might not cooperate
I direct playful, connection-based moments so siblings feel included.
I have no idea what to wear
I send a simple styling guide and help you pull outfits from your clo
“I was worried our tiny place was too dark, that my toddler would melt down, and that my husband (who hates taking pictures) would be miserable. But the photos feel dreamy and calm, and somehow my toddler looks like an angel. We actually had fun.”
— Kate B, San Francisco Newborn Mom
The sweet spot is usually the first two weeks. Babies are extra sleepy and snuggly. That said real life happens. If you feel better scheduling at four weeks or eight weeks we will make beautiful photographs then too.
Quick timeline for planning
Why mornings work well
You can absolutely write to me the moment baby decides to surprise you. I keep flexible space on my calendar for new arrivals and late naps.
Home is where your family’s story begins. The crib you built. The chair where you feed at 2 a.m. The plant you cared for while waiting for baby. Photographing in your own space makes the images feel uniquely yours.
I’ll choose the room with the best natural light—whether that’s your living room, nursery, master bedroom, or a mix of all three. Before our shoot, simply open curtains and blinds to let the light flow in. That way, I can see where it looks best.
No need to stress about cleaning your whole home! We can quickly straighten or organize just the small areas we’ll use for photos.
We don’t need props. The only things I suggest having close are:
When you book a session with me, you are not just getting photos. You are getting an experience that feels joyful, calm, and personal from start to finish.
A Finished Gallery: You’ll receive a generous collection of beautifully edited images, ready to share, print, and treasure.
Booking Made Easy: Reach me by email or text. Share your wish list or let me guide the session fully.
A Flexible Shot List: I’ll make sure we cover your priorities while leaving room for natural moments. Baby always leads the way.
Gentle Guidance: I’ll help you feel comfortable and confident without stiff poses. Honest moments over perfect poses every time.
During your session, I’ll capture the tiny details and natural connections that make this season unforgettable. Some of my favorite moments include:
These are the moments that tell your family’s story, the ones you will treasure forever.
Toddlers are some of my favorite “assistants.” They bring energy, unpredictability, and so much joy. My approach is to keep things short, playful, and fun so they feel included rather than pressured. Pets are family too, and I always love welcoming them into your session.
Before Your Session
During Your Session
After Your Session
While you relax or nap, I begin editing your images so you can relive these moments soon
Celebrate with a playground stop or a fun treat on the way home.
Picture this:
Soft morning light streaming through your window as your baby curls into your chest. Your favorite chair becomes part of your story.
Play first, then snuggles. Real life. Real joy. The giggles, the cuddles, the in-between moments that show who you really are.
Family togetherness. Group shots with everyone gathered around your baby, plus the little details you never want to forget—tiny fingers, sleepy eyes, a swaddle stretch.
And of course, plenty of mom and baby moments. Because those early days of connection are pure magic.
Outfits that photograph beautifully
House and light checklist
What if my home is small or dark?
I bring a trained eye for light and can create softness in one bright corner. You do not need a designer home.
What if baby cries or stays awake?
We let baby lead. Feedings snuggles and swaddles are part of the flow. Awake photos are beautiful too.
What should we wear?
Think simple and soft. Choose pieces you can move in. I send a quick guide and can text outfit photos back and forth.
Can we include grandparents or pets?
Yes. We will plan a short window for each so the session stays calm.
These resources are kind, practical, and well-loved by many of my clients. I also used each of them myself as a new mom and found them invaluable during my first year. They helped me feel confident, supported, and like myself again.
Those first weeks with your baby can feel like a beautiful blur. You are adjusting to sleepless nights, learning new routines, and discovering what life looks like as a family. It is easy to doubt yourself, but here is the truth—you are doing better than you think!
I found my own confidence through a mix of support and simplicity. Support from resources like sleep classes, local groups, and postpartum fitness programs. Simplicity in letting go of perfection and focusing on the real connections that mattered most.
That same mindset is at the heart of my newborn photography. Sessions are calm, baby-led, and designed to celebrate your family exactly as you are. No stiff poses. No pressure. Just the joy, love, and tiny details that make this season unforgettable.
If you are ready to feel empowered, supported, and seen during your newborn photos, I would love to help. Together we will create images that remind you how strong, capable, and deeply loved you are in this chapter.

The Newborn Haze & Why I Regret Not Choosing Newborn Lifestyle Photography I barely remember those early days after I brought home my son—the first week was a total blur.
