One of my favorite memories here was photographing a family as a flock of geese glided across the water behind them. Talk about perfect timing. Venue Fees: Kohl Mansion requires a $100 photography fee, which serves as a donation to Mercy High School and is tax deductible. If you choose this location for your family session, you’ll be responsible for the venue fee. I’ll handle all the coordination with the venue to reserve our session time.

Millbrae Meadows Park is one of my favorite Bay Area locations for family photo sessions, especially for families with young or elementary-aged children. Filoli Gardens in Woodside has a magical secret garden feel that is perfect for families wanting beautiful timeless photos. With seasonal blooms, lush greenery, and peaceful garden paths, it is a stunning spot year round. From vibrant spring flowers to cozy fall colors, there is always something lovely in bloom and the historic estate and mansion add an extra touch of charm.
Idea photoshoot times: From November to February, golden hour aligns with closing time, offering soft light throughout the grounds. In other months, early morning or late afternoon is best. During summer, “Summer Nights” keep the gardens open until 8 p.m. on select days.
Parking: Free with admission.

Queen Wilhelmina Tulip Garden
The Dutch Windmill in Golden Gate Park is one of my favorite San Francisco photo locations. It is a classic landmark paired with colorful blooms and open space that feels bright and easy. It works beautifully for so many seasons of life, from family sessions to maternity and even elopements. The greenery feels lush without being overwhelming, and the light stays soft and flattering. In the spring, the tulips add an extra layer of color and charm. As a bonus, we can often finish the session just across the street at Ocean Beach and catch a beautiful sunset if time allows.

This is one of those locations where I often hear parents say, “Wow, I cannot believe this is in our backyard.” With rugged cliffs, Sutro Baths, and sweeping ocean views, Lands End feels iconic and adventurous. The trails make the whole session feel like a family outing, not just a photoshoot.
